At first I was just gonna post it in a big forum, but first I'll post it here so it doesn't have to be permanent if I don't want it to be.
And you thought you saw it all.
Imagine if you will, that you are the only human present at St. PigeoNation's Institute, "the most splendid and greatest academy of the pigeon, by the pigeon and for the pigeon." Yes, pigeons. And then imagine, that in your second year, you begin to feel strange new emotions that could even be called...love; "The unexpected softness of a pigeon's rhinophyma..."
To sum it up, Hatoful Boyfriend is a doujin Visual Novel with the typical multiple endings, most where you end up with one of the birds featured above.
Now, before you think "OMG ZOOPHILIA" and click away from this thread/lock it, each bird is assigned a human portrait. So if you think the idea of humans dating birds is kind of creepy, you can just imagine the birds as humans instead. This VN is quite amusing, and there are quite a few tearjerkers in it. And while it does seem targeted at the female population, it can still be just as equally enjoyed by guys!
Finally, this version is only a demo, but it's a free download and the amount of stuff present in the demo alone is quite a bargain. The full version includes more events, a new character, and a few more paths. Oh, and it's available for both Mac and PC, too!
NoteNot every single frame will be screenshotted; instead, it will only be screenshotted when there's either a scene change or a bird pops up or disappears. Each character will have their own color to go with their voice, asides will be in black, and comments in gray italics. Boring parts (actually pretty much the beginning) will also be summarized. Oh, and although some parts of the translation are grammatically wrong, I'll still be keeping the errors as is.
So, without further ado, let's get started!
Warning: Birds Are More Handsome Than They Appear
First things first, we need to name the heroine, don't we? Because this is Japan, last name comes first. This is the default. But because default names are so boring, her new last name will be "Asakura". No particular reason other than I like it <3 Also all the characters have Japanese names so it'd be weird to have a non-Japanese name, right?
Next is her first name! This is also the default name, but again, that's gonna be changed, this time to Haruko! Haru is also a favorite name of mine, but since it's typically for a guy I added the suffix "-ko" to make it feminine.
The game will now ask if the name's OK and go on to say that while the cast has assigned voice actors the game itself does not have any voicing in it at all. It'll also ask if human portraits to be displayed. Of course, saying "Yes" is definitely the best option!
It's already been a year since I ended my ordinary life and walked through these gates.
I should probably say... This school is known for one thing in particular.
This school is Japan's--no, the world's, greatest gathering-place for gifted birds. If that's the case, then let's hope Alfred Hitchcock's movie doesn't end up being prophetic.
Birds who want to study the arts, the sciences, even sports all come to St. Pigeonation's. Does that count basketball?
The teaching staff and student body are both made up of a diverse blend of birds of different backgrounds and species. The Spanish teacher is probably a parrot.
I'm often asked why I chose to come here, despite not being a bird. Hey, dare to be different, right?
It's a long story...
Option number one appears! Just what will he look like?
Eh... Kind of normal, I suppose. The green feathers on his neck are kind of pretty, though...
"Usually you'd have been ready for an hour by now, Haruko!" A-an hour?! Geez, I don't think I could ever manage that given the time my school starts...
...I take back what I said earlier. You are quite cool-looking, aren't you~? Maybe even a bit adorable? ...By the way his assigned voice actor voices Crow from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, which I find kind of ironic.
He can be a little mischievous, but he's responsible and kind. Think typical childhood friend, which in my opinion is all right :3
She catches her own meals? You go, girl!
"Living as a hunter-gatherer sounds tough... I'd be happy to make you breakfast, you know." Hunter-gatherer...? Well, it does explain that earlier sentence. And a bird who can cook? Talk about talented!
"I might take you up on that offer when starvation looms. Thanks, Ryouta!"
"Oh! The bell already? Come on, we need to hurry to class!"
"Jeepers! No good being late on the first day!" "Jeepers?" Now that's my kind of bird.
Today is the start of a new semester. I wonder what lies in store...
It was all I could do to adjust to the atmosphere last year. Better make up for all that lost fun!
An eyecatch! ...I guess?
And with that we're finished with the first part! I have nothing to ask other than if you think this is a good series to continue following--that's kind of why this part was relatively short. And I guess I'd like to hear any sort of criticism on my comments.
